Reported by Chen, I-ming / Summary report
Lieutenant General Cheng Chen-Hsiang, Commander of the Military Police Command, conducted an on-site inspection yesterday of preparations for special security operations at the 2026 National Day fireworks display. After receiving mission briefings from the units assigned to the operation and supporting units, he inspected the venue’s access routes, operational areas, and troop deployments. He also provided guidance on venue use, personnel access, vehicle routes, and administrative support. He directed officers at all levels to coordinate with the organizers in advance, confirm the relevant arrangements, and familiarize themselves with the event schedule and on-site conditions to ensure thorough preparations.
Addressing operational security and equipment effectiveness, Commander Cheng said that security plans should account for the time of sunset and changes in the flow of arriving crowds, with troop deployments adjusted as necessary. Radio channel testing should also be completed before duty begins, and reliable communications established with counter-surveillance personnel stationed in high-rise buildings. Furthermore, he stressed that the placement of anti-drone jamming guns must be carefully assessed to ensure unobstructed lines of sight, preventing crowds from impairing their effectiveness. Operators must understand the performance characteristics of the equipment’s frequency bands and carry out thorough equipment inspections to respond effectively to various security threats.
Finally, Commander Cheng reminded officers at all levels to plan troop assignments and rotation schedules appropriately, ensuring that service members receive adequate rest and attention to their well-being while maintaining operational effectiveness and mission safety. He encouraged all personnel involved in the operation to carry out their security duties with rigor, pragmatism, and a strong sense of responsibility to ensure the successful completion of the National Day fireworks mission.
