Lieutenant General Cheng Chen-Hsiang, Commander of the Military Police Command, presided over the “Realistic Training Seminar for the 1st Garrison Combat Unit” yesterday. He attended briefings on the unit’s training plans and implementation progress and provided guidance on the direction of real-world combat training. Commander Cheng emphasized that the Garrison Combat Units bear the heavy responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s core security. It is essential for officers of all levels to implement, continuously refine their tactical command and basic combat skills, and enhance their ability to transition from peacetime to wartime operations and execute missions.
During the meeting, Commander Cheng cited Article 14 of the General Principles of War Training for the National Army: “Training is the source of combat power and the foundation of victory,” noting that only through rigorous training can the unit’s combat power be strengthened and the foundation for victory be laid. He also instructed mission force commanders to continue enhancing battlefield operations. They must maintain control over “critical protection targets” as well as “key infrastructure,” establish comprehensive support parameters, and refine force deployment or response measures. Furthermore, they should conduct regular exercises to evaluate command-control capabilities, force mobility, alongside situational response capabilities utilizing “on-site, real-time, live-fire, hands-on” principles.
Lastly, Commander Cheng urged the attending officers to continue implementing the mission-oriented command mechanism, identify issues through repeated drills, correct them immediately as necessary, and improve their abilities to make on-the-spot decisions and respond to emergencies. These efforts will enable the garrison combat units to fully demonstrate their critical combat capabilities and ensure the security of the nation’s heartland.
