Lieutenant General Cheng, Chen-Hsiang, Commander of the Military Police Command, visited the joint defense exercise unit yesterday to conduct an on-site inspection, gaining firsthand insight into battlefield management, key preparations within the troops, and tactical deployments. He also reviewed the overall operational concept and its effectiveness to strengthen joint operational integration and combat readiness capabilities.
Commander Cheng stated that this exercise, conducted in accordance with the Ministry of National Defense’s “Joint Defense” operational guidelines, focuses on verifying the troops’ adaptability and tactical application in complex battlefield environments. Officers at all levels should grasp the situation of the enemy in the immediate vicinity, the nature of the mission, and the operational concept. They should implement and enforce the ‘understanding the mission at every level’ mechanism, conveying information from top to bottom and confirming each item step by step, thereby ensuring that executing units clearly understand the mission details and key operational guidelines. By combining mission-oriented command with decentralized control, orders should be issued with precision to ensure consistent actions and establish a comprehensive operational overview.
Commander Cheng emphasized that officers at all levels must be thoroughly familiar with the battlefield environment in their areas of responsibility, meticulously plan troop deployments and mission organization, clearly identify key operational elements as well as relations between supporting and supported units, and integrate key terrain features such as major roads and bridges to strengthen firepower allocation and maneuverability, ensuring that all units can independently carry out missions and maximize overall combat effectiveness. He also reminded them that, in the face of ever-changing battlefield threats, they should continue to uphold the spirit of “diligent training and meticulous preparation,” deepen combat readiness measures, and strengthen cross-unit integration and real-time response capabilities through joint exercises conducted under a joint defense framework, thereby bolstering overall defensive operational capabilities.
