Commander Encourages the Implementation of Gender Equality, Fostering a Cohesive Atmosphere

Reported by Hsieh, Pei-Chen / Summary Report

In order to promote the notion of gender equality, Military Police Command invited the Supervisor of Taiwan Gender Equality Education Association, Ms. Su, Chien-Ling, to be a guest lecturer at the “Gender Equality Forum,” which was held yesterday at the Chung Chen Barracks. In his address, Military Police Command Commander Lieutenant General Huang, Chin-Tsai stressed that gender equality is a public issue which should not be ignored, one in which the Armed Forces have even established clear policies, therefore it is necessary to create a friendly work environment through gender equality education.

Commander Huang indicated that all soldiers should avoid hanging out when there is only a man and a woman. In the case when such a situation is unavoidable, such meeting should be reported first, in which an open space would be made available to discuss work matters. Additionally, in the case when hanging out in groups where it is not work-related, the willingness of an individual should be respected and not forced to participate. Finally, respect should be given towards all fellow comrades; one should always be aware of his/her manners, not to overstep boundaries and act appropriately in communication or physical interaction, thereby avoiding any future issues.

Commander Huang stressed that the Armed Forces are a like a big family. When executing missions, trainings, work, or daily living, one should always adhere to the principle of “respect for others, treat others the way you want to be treated.” In regards to the relationship between officers and subordinates, one should always draw a clear line between public and private matters, demonstrate proper mannerism, thereby creating a cohesive and friendly environment.
